Elyse Trusell earned a B.A. in English and Spanish and her M.Ed. at the University of St. Thomas, Houston. Her career in special education, spanning twenty-three years, began with twice-exceptional students at Carnegie-Vanguard High School.
For sixteen years, she supported students with learning differences at The Joy School (TJS), a special education environment, serving students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, autism-spectrum, processing and language struggles, ADD/ADHD, and more.
At TJS she taught 3d-8th grade ELA for over a decade, designing curriculum to support the learning needs of students and preparing 8th graders for mainstreaming to high school, including providing one-on-one and small group remediation. She also served on the academic administrative team, overseeing tutoring programs and consulting with parents, teachers, and professionals to identify tutoring plans to promote student success.
Elyse served three years as founding director of Learning Enrichment at Cathedral High School, a classical high school and integrated humanities program with art and music as part of its core, working with students, families, and faculty to develop individualized learning plans for each student in addition to offering academic and enrichment support.
Elyse is grateful to offer families and students in the Houston area specialized learning support and consulting so that students can experience learning success in their current academic environment or find the environment and support that will allow them to thrive.
